Using credit at both web and ps3

If I buy credit on the mubi web-site, can I use these for watching movies through the PS3? (I have tried this, but couldn't figure it out and ended up buying more credit through the PS3-store. It is sub-optimal to have to maintain credit at two accounts...)

  • I'm very sorry for the problem, and we'll be happy to help.

The PS3 and PC systems are linked to a very large extent, as they can share an account and a subscription. Unfortunately, due to complications with the payment infrastructure, credit on PS3 does not carry over to PC, and vice versa. This is because payment is done on two different systems, not shared between us and Sony.

However, an easy way around this for now is to start watching a film on your PC, then resume on PS3. Even if you just watch the first few seconds online, our system will have recorded that you paid for it, so it will become available for you on PlayStation. This is an imperfect solution, but it's the simplest option for now as we discuss a fix.

I can continue watching a movie I started on another platform? Cool!

Thank you, I can live with this limitation as long as I am aware of it.

Hi! Having a monthly subscription on my PS3 I have quite the same problem. Besides that it definitively should be possible in the near future to use credit on both accounts, I would like to ask if it is possible to carry my subscription over to the normal web account, since I won't have my PS3 at home in the next months and I don't want to pay twice (I already paid for some months without actually watching a single movie...)?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello ulrichrabl,

Apologies for delay in reply. A subscription should work on both PS3 and PC. It's not like credit, and it does carry over automatically. Your PC and PS3 accounts however must be merged into one single account (the email address should be the same for both of them). If you having any difficulties with this please email us at support@mubi.com.

Thank you for your patience and do let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

    All the best,
    Pawel

    Hi there!

What about using the same account for PC and smartphone? I've got an Android phone, but I cannot understand why sometimes I'm able to watch the movies and sometimes not. It's quite strange!

    Best regards,
    Alberto

    Hello Alberto,

May I ask you which version of Android are you running? Does that happens for all the films? Are you able to play on your smartphone the free Festival titles for example http://mubi.com/cinemas?

Hello Pawel, and thanx for your quick reply!

I've got Android Gingerbread (2.3) running on a Samsung Galaxy S2.

Yes, I'm definitely able to play all the free movies (for example: Alice in Wonderland, and the movies in the Mar de la Plata International Film Festival).

I can also play some other movies. Sometimes a movie can be played and sometimes not, without any particular reason. I don't change the setting of the browser or anything. The fact is that sometimes the movies are playable and sometimes not (it happens with Ingmar Bergman movies, for instance).

Rarely, a message alluding to a wrong certificate appears. I tryed to reinstall the flash player, but the problem is still there.

    This is it.

Hope we can solve the problem, I really would like to keep my subscribtion to this wonderful site, but I should be able to play the movies on my Android.

    Kindest regards,
    Alberto

PS. When a movie is playable, also subtitles works regularly.

  • Unfortunately we don't have any Android tablets to test against at the moment, but we are updating our encoding process to standardize profiles and have multiple bitrates for all films. That may be of some help.

There are other problems as well, such as the diversity of Android hardware and the poor performance of Flash on low-powered tablet CPUs. Long term the goal will be to get to HTTP streaming video that has native hardware support over the largest possible cross section of devices.
