I'd love to have the option to find like-minded users, something like "musical neighbours" on last.fm.

This is a great idea, adding the social networking aspect to help users identify what they really look for in movies. Just check out what your neighbor's watching :D -

2I'm not sure about the best way to do this, but I really like this idea.
Thinking out loud: if were a database with everyone's ratings (and if the ratings were more than 5 stars) and just matched up the people with the most similar ratings on films (see criticker), I think that would be cool. (I do think it would be good to have some normative way to ratings--i.e. have everyone on the same page about the ratings signify.)-
I agree, Netflix has meanings for each of their ratings and I think it does just that, keep people on the same page, I tend to give out four stars to my favorites, knowing they are probably not the greatest film ever, but 4 is definitely above average/good.

I don't know if it's possible but like lastfm, it could be great to use a kind of compatibility level between the users.

I'm also a member of LibraryThing, the social network site for books. On your profile-page there is list of like-minded readers ordered according to the amount of shared books in your library, or a list of people who share your favourite books, favourite authors. Why not also on MUBI?
