I bought my monthly subscription about a week ago, and in 60% of the films I have seen this has occured: the images suddenly stop in a given point and the audio keeps going on.
I had already bought the subscription 5 or 6 times before and this had never happened (I still have the same internet conection). I don't know if the streaming velocity lowered because of all the Semaine de la Critique's film online for free, but I think that WE WHO PAY should get a better service.
I have already stopped watching two films (O extranho mondo de Zé do Caixao and Lascars) because of this problem, and have not been able to take full advantage of my subscription.
Watching films online on Mubi used to be AWESOME, but this is getting worse than a YouTube video. Hope you guys can solve this.

I am sorry that you have experienced difficulties during the playback. I've checked both films and they play fine on our end. May I suggest to make sure that your version of Flash is up-to-date. You can download the latest version for free here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/.
Aside from updating Flash and making sure your computer meets the system requirements, our lead developer would also recommend:
Shutting down all other programs
Using Google Chrome (which has a low memory overhead)
Restarting your computer, and not doing anything else except starting Chrome and watching the film

I have the same problem including that the audio keeps going. I use Chrome, I have the latest Flash, system requirements and everything else off. I used to be able to let the film load and then watch it but can do that no longer...

We're in the process of upgrading our player from progressive download to streaming and some of our users may encounter issues of bandwidth, since the film can no longer buffer all the way.
I would recommend, as above, shutting down other programs and using Google Chrome, which has a lower overhead (anything that can free up bandwidth will help, and even a fast computer can be slowed down by spyware)

I did all of that, closed all other internet windows and programs (logging out as well), installed the latest fast player, and during the first 6 minutes of a film, this has occured already 3 times.
I want a solution for this, this is very inferior to what Mubi had given me the past times I bought my subscription, and this causes me to watch less films than I could and as well to enjoy them less.
- Finished watching it. The film stopped for more than 10 seconds 5 times in 14 minutes and following all the recommendations you sir made to me, but there's still a big problem here. It didn't get any better. -

The Mubi experience is less fun than it used to be. -

hello, i'm getting constant stopping and starting. trying to watch time bandits. using chrome, latest flash, etc etc. poor. did not used to be like this.

Sorry to hear that. May I ask to try using different browser? Depending on the system some users reported better results with Firefox or Safari.

was trying firefox before chrome (osx) - seems to stop at the same times no matter what. have wasted plenty of time trying to get it to work but is unwatchable, so will go find it somewhere else... would like a refund.

I'm experiencing the same issue, choppy picture, seems to pause. Using chrome, happens in IE, updated video driver & flash. FF just a black square, doesnt load. No problems with netflix, things i download, ubu.com or hulu. This is clearly something to do with your site. I am a subscriber.
