Dear MUBI
I was going to join and pay the R$12.99 to watch films online, but what good is it if almost all the ones I want to see are "not watchable in your area?" So much for the global internet... And why do you keep appeasing us with the message "sorry, it's not our fault, we're working to get over this problem", year after year, as if those films actually will become available to us for streaming someday. Just face reality please, tell us bluntly that "because of absurd copyright laws you can't watch these films online EVER (unless, who knows, the law is changed)."
Therefore MUBI is no use for me, sorry (but I know it ́s not your fault)...
Sincerely,
Sonia Ribeiro

Dear Sonia Riberio,
being a big filmfan myself, I do absolutely understand you and I would love to see every of my favorite films everywhere and every time as well. But sadly it isn't that easy. Having the rights for a film in Germany for example, does not mean to have automatically the rights to show it in Brazil, not even to talk about the rights for different subtitles.
MUBI strives to bring the best in independent and world cinema. This is not an easy task as, contrary to the studio/mainstream films distribution, the rights are owned by many small, different local distributors or even particular filmmakers/producers themselves. We need to reach out to every one of them in order to build a more comprehensive library. Currently we have signed deals with over 250 distribution partners! This is impressive yet depending on the territory may not bring all the films our community would like to watch instantly. But rest assured we are working hard to acquire new titles in more territories.
Right now we are showing 780! films in Brazil. And please believe me, we are working every day to make them more, but legal and technical issues take its time.
To see which films are available in your are and to avoid further notes of "not available in your area", please follow these steps:
> login to MUBI
> Click on FILMS on your starting page
> Click on EXPLORE
> activate AVAILABLE TO WATCH IN YOUR AREA
And because MUBI is both: an online database and a VOD platform, not all the films listed in the library are available to watch on our platform but you can use the filmpages to discuss, rate and share it with other users for free.
I hope I could bring some light into how things work and why MUBI is how it is at the moment, still I agree with you that we have to have more films available in every area around the world, thats why I work here, that's what everyone at MUBI is working for.
Hopefully you'll find some films to enjoy in our recent collection and please let me know if you have any furhter questions.
Best regards,
Maximilian

Dear Maximilian,
Thank you for your reply. I understand the difficulty MUBI faces with such area restrictions, and am not optimistic about the situation. I looked at the catalog of films available in my area, there were a few interesting ones so I'll think about it.
Best regards,
Sonia -
