Bad Search Engine
The search engine needs a lot of work. It is a rare time that I can retrieve an actor or film page without having to traipse through several other pages. This is true even with clicking on the appropriate categories (film people, etc.)

My problem is that there are not enough movies in the database. So much is missing.

I agree, the search engine really sucks. One thing I did notice, for me at least, is that the little search engine that finds movies when you are selecting films for a List you are making is 100% better than the main search engine on the site. This is how I discovered some films were even on the database!

Thank you all for your patience. We recognize the issue: upgrading the search engine is on our list of priorities, and hopefully it will be ready soon!

I'd like it very much if you could configure the search feature so that when I search for a film, I get taken to the film's page. The current search returns all references to the search string and the film's page often appears fairly far down that list. That's not very efficient or helpful.

Improve your search function. Differentiate between directors, film titles, discussions in which search terms are mentioned, etc. Default to just directors and film titles; add discussions to an "advanced search."

it would be really nice to have a proper movie search. cause for now its kinda hard to find the one u need. something where u see the poster, the director and the year when the movie was shot. and probably the list of movies that could be your possible search
would be also great to have an advanced search with years genres etc
same for directors or actors -

perhaps there should be a "actor missing from the credits? add them here" space where users can submit missing people and the mubi can double check and approve, i can think of another movie that, are you ready? neglects to mention christopher lee is in it!

Mubi needs to improve their search function for films. The majority of the time I search for a film to give it a rating or comment, it does not show up on the results and I have to search by the actor, then go to their page, then see if the film is even in the database. It's frustrating to the point where I don't think I'll bother coming to the site any more.

I am glad others are noting this problem, and that there is a potential solution but frankly it seems to be getting worse at this point. It's easier to go straight to google.com and enter a search for a film or person on mubi than using the google search engine within the site itself.

I won a free trial to Mubi (because I beat Roger Ebert's Oscar Predictions) and even I can't be bothered to use it. Not a good sign.

Gave up after a couple of minutes searching for something interesting to watch

Things have been far better for so much longer, but now are seeming to go down hill again. I am a former IT/database person, if I can be of any sort of help I'm willing to try.
